            A.        Research and reading in preparation for classroom  lectures.

 

            B.         In 1987, I developed and offered an upper level course in Canadian History.

 

            C.        In 1987, I was selected to participate in the prestigious Quebec Summer Seminar--co-sponsored by the Center for the Study of Canada and the Government of the Province of Quebec.

 

            D.        Member of the party welcoming and dining with Rev. Ralph Abernathy on the occasion of his visit to SHSU during Black History Month  (February, 1985).

 

            E.         Member of the party welcoming the Canadian Consul-General on the occasion of the presentation of a gift of books to the SHSU Library by the Canadian Government.  (1985).

 

            F.         Major role in bringing Canadian historian Michael Bliss to SHSU to deliver a talk on Canadian history and politics (March 8, 1984).

 

            G.        Undertook responsibility for the development of the History Department’s British Empire course (1966) and its African History course (1987).                    

 

            H.        Assisted in arrangements for a presentation on Canadian Woodlands Art by Peter Sherrill of the University of Arkansas, held at SHSU (1988).

            K.        In the Spring semester (1987), I developed and offered a graduate level course in African History.  Pedagogically, this course was quite innovative because it combined an intensive inquiry into the history of Africa with the goal of having each student emerge from the class as a published scholar.  Each student signed a contract with Greenwood Press; and the 40-50 short essays produced by the class were included in the Historical Dictionary of European Imperialism.   

            L.         Participation in planning and presentation of the History Department’s “Workshop on World History”.(Summer, 1991; Summer 1992).

                        Presentation:  “The Image of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in the American Movie Serial, 1922-1956.”  Command Performance.   Prof. Nick Pappas and I were asked to do an encore of this presentation by the hosts of the Canadian studies meeting in Atlanta in August, 2003.

 

            N.        Judge for the SHSU  Academic challenge 1993-2005.

 

            O.        Attended the Syllabus Internet Workshop at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas (April, 1997).

 

            P.         Conducted a hands-on workshop on “Canadian Resources on the Internet” at the 1997 SWACS Conference at SHSU (Feb., 22, 1997).

 

            Q.        Judge for the History Department’s annual essay contest.

 

            R.         Presentation:  “Millenarian movements in Africa at the 1999 meeting of the Texas Council for History Education. The subject of the conference was “Millenarian Movements:  Welcoming the End of History.”  (Huntsville, Texas-- April 1999).

 

                        Chairman: Session on Canadian History at the 1999 SWACS Conference in New Orleans (Feb. 1999).

 

           

            S.         Member of the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Application Review Committee for the South-East Texas Region. (1999-2005)

 

            T.         31st Annual Meeting of the Southwest Conference Asia Studies at Sam Houston State University in October 2002.  (Assisted Prof. Tracy Steele in preparations for this conference and served as “Technical Coordinator” during the conference.)

            V.        I have served on the Advisory Committee for Encuentro and have assisted Prof. Crimm in preparations for these events.   Also, I have taken the digital photos for the Encuentro web page.

 

            W.       In Spring 2003, I was involved in the preparations for the James S. Olson Auditorium Dedication and related events.  Specifically, I was in charge of the Food and Receptions Committee.  Also, I took digital pictures and made a video tape recording of the dedication, etc.   At some time in the future, Prof. Nick Pappas and I plan to edit those tapes and photos to create a DVD of this historic SHSU occasion.

 

            X.        History Department representative and participant in James Van Roekel’s technology conference and exhibition at the Lowman Student Center.  (Fall 2003 and Spring 2004.)

 

            Y.        I have participated in the Brown Commemoration events (S/2004) and have taken digital pictures for the History Department web page.

 

            Z.         Attended the Southwestern Social Science Association meeting in New Orleans (March 2005). My main duty here was to be in charge of taking a van load of SHSU History Students to the conference and back.

            C.        In August, 2003, at a Canadian Studies Conference in Atlanta, SWACS was laid to rest and a new Canadian studies group was formed.  I am a founding member of the Southern Association for Canadian Studies (SACS).
