G.O.S.H. - Geographers of Sam Houston

Geographers of Sam Houston is a sponsored student organization with an active program of field trips and invited speakers. It also promotes interest in geography through activities under the coordination of the organization and its sponsor. Contact Dr. Donald Albert for more details.

GTU - Gamma Theta Upsilon

GTU is an International Geography Honor Society that was established to promote an awareness and appreciation of Geography and to encourage the pursuit of geographic knowledge and research. It was founded in 1928 and became a national organization in 1931. The chapter at Sam Houston was the third chapter in the nation to be established. Students may apply for GTU scholarships through the national organization. In order to be a member of GTU, a student must have completed 4 courses in geography, earned a minimum of a 3.25 GPA in geography courses, and an overall GPA of 3.0. Our chapter seeks to recognize academic excellence by admitting eligible students into the organization, and it seeks to promote participation in community activities geared toward public service. S.H.A.G.S. - Sam Houston Association of Geology Students

The Sam Houston Association of Geology Students (SHAGS) is a very active student organization that sponsors field trips to sites in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Alumni, professors, and other professional geologists are invited to speak at SHAGS meetings. Geology majors benefit greatly from the sense of camaraderie gained during the field trips, meetings, and other activities. SHAGS offers the Cannan Geological Scholarship and two other scholarships each year to highly qualified juniors and seniors majoring in Geology. Contact Dr. Brian Cooper for more details.
