The Department of Geography and Geology at Sam Houston State University is committed to providing a strong program of study in order to prepare our students for careers in either geography or geology-related fields. The department is currently expanding into a graduate field in GIS(geographic information systems), this program is planned to start in the near future. This will be made possible by the two state-of-the-art GIS labs , both of which are being updated with the latest computer aided technology. The new lab enables select students to receive extra experience working on real-world projects. Unlike many large departments in which graduate students teach many of the lower division courses, all of our courses (with the exception of some introductory labs) are taught by faculty members that have an advanced degree. In our opinion, this translates into a quality education for our students. Of course, we also have club organizations to further promote learning, fun, and a sense of camaraderie.
